Other Sundarban Tours
Unlike most national parks in India, the Sundarbans National Park remains open throughout the year. However, the peak tourist season falls between September and March, when the weather is most pleasant. This is also the best time to witness crocodiles basking on the riverbanks and to enjoy scenic boat safaris under clear skies. Particularly, October to March is considered ideal for Sundarban tour packages due to the comfortable climate. That said, if you're keen on spotting wildlife, summer months offer a better chance, as animals often venture near the artificial water bodies located close to the watchtowers in search of water.
Sundarbans National Park is located approximately 100 kilometers from Kolkata and is well-connected for travelers seeking a unique wilderness experience. There are several options for overnight accommodation, allowing tourists to embark on boat safari tours ranging from half-day, full-day, to 2-day expeditions.
Popular stay options are available in Pakhirala Village, Bali Island, and Dayapur Island—all conveniently located near the Sajnekhali Watch Tower, a prime zone for wildlife viewing. The region offers a wide variety of accommodation ranging from budget-friendly cottages to 3-star resorts.
The cost of a private Sundarban boat safari typically ranges between INR 7,000 to 10,000 per day, varying with the season. This cost is exclusive of forest entry fees and guide charges. For convenience, you may opt for a Sundarban tour package from Kolkata, which includes transport, accommodation, meals, safaris, and guide services.
Safari tours can be booked on a reserved basis (private boat) or shared basis (group tour), and our team will assist in planning your trip with an experienced Sundarban tour guide. We also offer 2 Nights / 3 Days Sundarban tour packages with stays at luxury resorts for those seeking a more comfortable and exclusive jungle experience.
The Sundarbans is the largest mangrove forest in the world, making it one of the most unique ecosystems on planet Earth. What sets it apart even further is that it is home to the majestic and elusive Royal Bengal Tiger, one of the main attractions of the region. The forest is also teeming with wildlife, including a large population of mugger and estuarine crocodiles, often seen basking along the banks.
Despite the presence of such predators, there has never been a single reported instance of a tiger or crocodile attacking tourists. All forest safaris are conducted with strict safety protocols, and it is mandatory to be accompanied by a certified forest guide while entering the core areas.
Many travellers inquire about mosquitoes and insects, but rest assured, there are no major problems in this regard. All reputable resorts and hotels in the Sundarban provide mosquito nets and insect repellents in every room, ensuring a safe and comfortable stay for visitors.
If you're planning a 2 Nights / 3 Days Sundarban tour package, booking comfortable accommodation is essential. We assist you in reserving the best resorts and forest hotels in the Sundarbans, ensuring a relaxing and safe stay close to nature.
While there are no official 5-star hotels in the region, the top resorts offer 3-star facilities with a luxury stay experience, combining comfort with authentic jungle vibes.
During your stay, we also help you book your Sundarban cruise package, which takes you deep inside the forest through the river channels for wildlife spotting and exploration. All arrangements, including accommodation, meals, boat safari, guide, and forest permits, are taken care of to provide you with a seamless and memorable Sundarban experience.
As of 15/07/2025 For a single-day jungle safari tour inside the national park covering Sajnekhali, Sudhanyakhali, and DoBanki Watch Towers, the entry charges are as follows, Boat Entry & Jungle Access Charges Indians: ₹500, Non-Indians (Foreigners): ₹2,000, Guide Charges: Indians: ₹500, Non-Indians: ₹1,000, These same charges also apply if you’re visiting Bonnie Camp and Kalash Island.
For Nethidhopani Watchtower, which is the only watchtower located inside the core area of the forest, all charges are doubled due to its protected status.
The tour guides in Sundarbans are local villagers, many of whom have deep knowledge of the jungle and wildlife. They usually speak Bengali and Hindi, and some may communicate in basic English. However, if you require a professional guide fluent in English, it is recommended to book one separately in advance.
By Train- From Sealdah Station in Kolkata, take a local train to Canning (approx. 1 hour). From Canning, continue by road to Godkhali (approx. 1 hour). At Godkhali, cross the river by ferry to reach Gosaba Town (30 minutes), then take a motorized rickshaw van (45 mins) to Pakhirala Village, where various resorts and lodges are available. Alternatively, from Canning, you can travel by bus, auto, or shared jeep to Jharkhali, which also offers accommodation options.
By Road- There are two main road routes from Kolkata to Sundarbans, Via Baruipur–Canning: Around 100 km, takes about 4 hours due to heavy traffic.
Via Basanti Highway: Longer in distance but faster due to less traffic. If you're heading to Godkhali, you'll be dropped there and must take a ferry and then land transport to reach Pakhirala Village. For Jharkhali, you can drive directly by car without needing a ferry.
The latest estimates indicate a rise in the population of Royal Bengal Tigers in the Indian Sundarbans. According to data from the West Bengal Forest Department, the tiger count increased to 96 in 2019–20, up from 88 in 2018–19. This growth is a positive sign for conservation efforts in the region.
However, if you're visiting the Sundarbans specifically to spot a tiger in the wild, you may need to temper your expectations. Tiger sightings are extremely rare due to the dense mangrove forest and the elusive nature of these big cats. That said, with some luck and patience, sightings are not impossible, especially during early mornings or low tides when animals come near the water’s edge.
