Bishnupur, located in the Bankura district of West Bengal, is famous for its exquisite terracotta temples and rich cultural heritage. The town is renowned for its unique style of architecture, which flourished under the Malla kings in the 17th and 18th centuries. The temples of Bishnupur are known for their intricate terracotta carvings depicting scenes from Hindu mythology, daily life, and nature.
Starting From Kolkata at 6 am. Breakfast on the way. On the way our first stop will be Dwarhatta Rajrajeswar Temple(Build 1728, included in List of Protected Monuments by the ASI) of Singha Roy family with atchala, triple archway has tight scroll work above the archways, figures along the base & around the façade. Rare examples of Pancharatna temples with ridged rekha turrets have facades fully decorated with figures.
Then we stop at Joypur forest for tea break, then arrive at Bishnupur town.
After lunch we visit all temples & monuments of Bishnupur namely
Jor Bangla Temple (Keshta Rai Temple),
Rasmancha,
Radhamadhab Temple,
Kalachand Temple,
Madan Mohan Temple,
Radha-Gobinda Temple and
Shyam Ray Temple.
Late afternoon at about we start back for Kolkata and reach back at your place of stay by 9 pm.
The best time to visit Bishnupur is during the winter months, from October to March, when the weather is pleasant.
Bishnupur is well-connected by road and rail. It is approximately 140 kilometers from Kolkata, and there are regular trains and buses from Kolkata and other major cities in West Bengal.
Apart from exploring the terracotta temples, visitors can experience local crafts such as Baluchari saree weaving, conch shell carvings, and pottery. Bishnupur is also famous for its traditional music, especially Bishnupur Gharana of Hindustani classical music.
