Reach Jharkhali

If you go by train, get off at Canning, from where buses and private vehicles are available to take you to Jharkhali. The distance between Canning and Jharkhali is 44km. Direct buses are available from Baruipur. One can also hire vehicles from Basanti to reach the island. But If you are planning to do Sundarban tour by self drive car or bike, you need to take right at Mother Teresa Statue after crossing Basanti Town and take Jharkhali Road to Reach Jharkhali Bazar. From there take left towards Jharkhali Jetty Ghat and then you reach our resort. The road at the last stretch is narrow and have very sharp turns, even though the roads are very smooth, you need to drive a little cautiously.

Jharkhali Ecological Zone where our resort is located is also in the Coastal Marine Ecosystem. Being located near the Mangrove forests and eco zone our accommodation is in strict adherence to government regulations and provided limited luxury in terms of amenities. With vast green rice plantations and mangrove trees our resort boasts of a pure eco friendly jungle stay. Though you have LED TVs, modern western toilets and 24 hours running water, we depend upon the generator for electricity and provide hot water in buckets. You have a small swing on our premises and a large garden and wide open field to enjoy some group activity and evening campfire. We have on premise parking for 10 cars and any number of bikes for those who want to enjoy Sundarban Tour by self drive car/bike. Food here is prepared fresh and needs to be pre ordered and consumed at our Kitchen cum Dining area. Itinerary Budget/Economic Sundarban Tour Packages

Day 1 After Breakfast Hotel Pickup from Kolkata transfer to  Jharkhali By Car(If Kolkata Pickup & Drop is arranged by us. Otherwise reach directly by self drive car or bike to our Resort. Park your self drive car/bike directly to our resort. Check in at hotel room, get fresh and Lunch to be served at Hotel. Go for Jharkhali Watch Tower and Tiger Rescue Center visit. Here you can see two tigers in captivity, some crocodiles and monitor lizards. A dear park is also being build here and to be completed soon. Also a mangrove nursery is here where you can see the different type of mangrove plant species. Later visit Jharkhali Ferry Ghat from where you can witness the confluence of 5 rivers. It is so huge that the land on the othersides are not visible. One of the rivers go and flows into the Bay of Bengal from here. Late afternoon go for self drive car/bike tour to villages to see thatched huts and mud houses in the countryside, Sunset Point, Evening Documentary Show On Sundarbans, Overnight At Hotel.

Day 2 After Breakfast At Hotel Go for jungle safari boat cruise from 8 am. This boat cruise will last till sunset and during this period we will visit 3 watch towers, namely Sajnekhali, Sudhanyakhali and Dobanki. This Covers Sajnekhali Tiger Project, Crocodile Project, Turtle Project, Mangroove Interpretation Center, Bono Bibi Temple, Sudhanyakhali Watch Tower, Dobanki Watch Tower, Canopy walk, Pirkhali, Gazikhali & other narrow Creeks,  Pancha Mukhani(Five river confluence). Cruising  the small channels and creeks we will try to spot different wildlife, spotted dear, wild boars, civet cat, monitor lizard, crocodiles, dolphins and of courses the Royal Bengal Tigers. Lunch and other refreshments will be cooked and served on the boat. Cruise will end at 5 pm. You can start your return journey on this day itself and reach Kolkata by night by your bike or self drive car or our drop service. Otherwise you can opt for staying back at resort for the night and return on day 3 after breakfast.

Day 3(Optional) After breakfast you can go for a full day tour to Bonnie Camp and Kalash Island for a full day jungle safari. These are less frequented watch towers where more animal sightings are possible. Or after breakfast go for joy ride through the backwaters of the villages observing the locals doing their local chores along the river banks. This will last 3 hours. Then return to resort and have your lunch and proceed back to Kolkata.If you are going for Kalash & Bonnie camp you return around 4 pm and start for Kolkata.

Nestled in the lap of the wonderful Sunderbans, it’s an isolated tourist spot, around 100km away from Calcutta. Jharkhali is situated at an almost equal distance from Godkhali and Sonakhali in Basanti block of South 24-Parganas. The mangrove forests of the Sunderbans start where Jharkhali ends. Tucked away on the south-east fringe of the Sunderbans, Jharkhali can be reached from Basanti and Canning via Sonakhali, Kultali and Kumirmari. After passing through lush green paddy fields, small villages and lines of trees on either side of the road, Jharkhali lies almost at the edge of brackish water. Even 20 years back, a strong wind blowing in from the mangrove forests was common in Jharkhali, the storm-like wind probably lending the place its name. Jharkhali is a favourite of tourists for its abundant nature and vast expansion of rivers like Herobhanga and Bidyadhari.
